The one good thing about this incident is that Carl will probably be excused from his qualifying position, and will be able to be the last car to qualify.

Oh man, that's bad news - the worst thing I could imagine happening would be the chrome and green car getting wrecked... At least we know the red car is capable of good speeds after quals at Darlington, but is it set up for a short track?

This sure is unwelcome news.

Carl gets a one sentence mention on Nascar.com:  Carl Long backed the No. 00 Chevrolet into the wall as well.

However much I would like for Carl to make the race, from my point of view the odds are stacked heavily outside of his favor.  Hopefully Carl and the team turn this around and surprise me!

From Jayski:

So what happened to Long in practice? for the Chevy American Revolution 400 at Richmond International Raceway. Carl Long crashed his primary #00 Buyer's Choice Auto Warranty Chevrolet during afternoon practice.
WHAT HAPPENED? During a qualifying run, my car's been extremely tight in the center of the corner. It was a little bit free entering Turn 1 each time and unfortunately for me with different run we had a different set of shocks on it. And those shocks wouldn't let the car recover-it kind of held it down real stiff. And when it got loose on me getting into Turn 1, where I've been recovering all practice, I reckon I gave out of talent.
IT APPEARS YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR MOTOR IN THE SPARE CHASSIS - DID YOU LIKE THAT MOTOR? Yeah, that's the only engine that we have, so..(GM PR), so it looks like Long will make an attempt to make the race.(5-13-2005)

Geez, we're in the GM Racing press release for practice! lol How about that? Thought only factory-backed teams got in that. Only other drivers in it are Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, and Scott Riggs.

I am really amazed that GM interviewed him lol.  I guess they see he has talent after qualifying 21st last weekend.
