I can't see what the problem is - someone on another forum I frequent worked it all out and based on the average UK price of 90p per litre, petrol over here costs around $6.20 a gallon in your money...

you have developed your lifestyle around that though. we are used to seeing 1.50 a gallon or less.
its frickin pathetic that i have to pay 44 bucks to fill up a damn chevy celebrity.
i didnt see oil storm, but with whats going on right now, i would like to.

a friend of mine told me his dad invested big in some stock of a Mo-PED manufacturing company. when i heard that i thought it was really smart. I also have a silverado, but i dont dare drive it. it gets fricken 11 MPG. ill take the 17 that my celeb gets.

There's a point actually, why do American cars have such terrible fuel mileage? That no doubt makes the problem worse.

Part of the problem is that people have these big useless SUV's that they dont really need to have, they get like 14 mpg at most.  Most people just buy them for luxury instead of what they were originally ment for.  They were first built for use as vehicles that could be used for work, now they just have these big SUV's that are just built for looks.

why?
because generally, our people lust for horsepower.
my celebrity has a 2.8V6, makes about 160 HP. in the USA, thats considered average to below average. i bet is scotland, 160 HP is hard to come by. and im not slamming you guys. you guys are actually smarter in that department. you see people drive things like the toyota sequioa, ford expedition, explorer, excursion, yukon....i could go on forever.
the sad part is, those same people, who get 12 MPG tops, are complaining.
LOOK IN THE MIRROR!

a chevy equinox has all you need and gets up to 26 MPG, theres a better buy than a damn expedition

I think that if you have 3 or more kids, a Van or a SUV is just fine, but if you have no kids, WHAT IS THE NEED FOR THEM!?!? My mom has a chevy Lumina, and My mom, dad, my brother and me can fit in it just fine. I am to tall to go for a trip in the back of it, but if we take a trip it is usually just two of us, or it's a motorcycle trip so we don't have to worry to much.

My Mom owns a Honda Metropolitan II (sure it is only 1 or 2 gallons) but it get 72 mpg and her Lumina ain't bad.

My dad owns 6 motorcycles, and a Ford Tempo.

we get good mileage and we have no problems gettin' around and this is a family of 4.

My dad also owns a Ford Bronco, but the reason why he owns this is that he likes to be able to haul stuff if he NEEDS TO, and if it is bad enough, we use it in Winter (Minnesota Winters Suck).

Also,

Oil Storm is a Fox t.v. movie that came out this year.

It is about a couple of families, and how they went through the following.....

First- A Hurricane wipes out a lot of the Oil rigs and stuff down in La. and it makes prices go up.
Then a bunch of senarios with the war in Iraq, made it go up even more.
We have a tanker go down and burnt-up
a HUGE oil plant in Iraq is blown up.
and a few more things that I can't remember.

It is pretty "over-done", but the first one sounds dead on, and we are still in the War with Iraq. It was a good movie, but It is gettin' close to real.

49, you forgot the king of the gas drinkers. The Hummer H2. You have to have deep pockets to fill that tank. It roughly gets about 6 to 9 MPG, it is exempt from the EPA testing because it is over the weight that defines it as a passenger vehicle. That thing is all for image. If you've ever been inside one, there's no more, maybe even less space than the Tahoe/Yukon platform that it's based on.

By the way 49, your celebrity gets 17 mpg? That's horrible. That's comparable to a midsize SUV like the Explorer. My Acura TL gets 20/29 MPH and has 110 hp more than the Celebrity. I bet a lot of reason that is because of aerodynamics and weight. The celebrity being on the boxy and heavy side.

Also for some reason our gas prices havent gone up yet. It's at about 2.98, which its been like for weeks. There's always tomorrow...

I own a 1999 Chevy Tahoe and its got the 5.7 350 vortec motor. It gets about 17 miles to the gallon. I got that for travelling purposes because you gotta have something comfortable to drive for a long amount of time. Im happy with it. Although since it gets terrible mileage in the city I just got a 2005 Suzuki Katana bike which gets close to 60 miles to the gallon.

Hummer has tried finding ways to get them to run on something else, also, they are so much $$$ that you don't see to many. The one thing that I get a little mad at is NASA, I LOVE the idea of space travel, getting info, and ect. Heck my "real" dad did nothing besides watching C-Span, and the Nasa channel (and Nascar Smiley), but look at how much they burn up each time they send up a Shuttle or a rocket.
