A New Track
« on: May 18, 2005, 04:55:03 PM »

The reason I bring this up is, here in MN, they want to put in a new Stadium for the Twins.
I Love baseball and my favorite team is the Twins, But we already have a VERY nice stadium, called the Metro-Dome.
The State is already in the RED so y would they build this?
I think that if they were to build something that size it better be a Track, cause we need one here.

I remember not too long ago a group was planning a half mile paved track up here, but the environmental groups shot them down really fast.  Have heard nothing since.  I doubt Nascar would put a track up here in northern Minnesota since I'm sure they could find somewhere else with less hurdles to jump through that would help spread tracks around the country.  However much I would like one in Minnesota. . . .

I voted for Washington, seems like an area where you might find a unique track waiting to be built.  I don't really have a particular reason for thinking that way, just logic in my own head  Wink

There should be a NASCAR race in the Northwestern/Northcentral part of the United States. That's where there's a lack of races.

Also about that Tree Huggin group.....

My English Teacher is in the Peace Core and is also an envirMENTAList. and one of our assinments were to write a 5-paragraph paper on your favorite famous person. of course I did Dale Jarrett. She told me how Nascar is a Racist, sexist sport, and that it is bad ffor the envirment.

and over the winter I hit the side of a Tree with my Snowmobile and hurt my ankle.

so in summery, I hate Tree Huggers a little. Angry Angry Angry Angry

New York City area would be the best.  There is talk of building a track in Staten Island, but would that be for nextel or busch (like the mexico track)?

Heheh, I get to put in a protest vote - thanks DJ. Wink  There is already a custom built oval in the UK actually - Rockingham Motor Speedway (original name...) near Corby in England. It's a short track and it runs a NASCAR-esque series which was once called ASCAR but seems to change it's name every year. I think they use old Busch cars which were shipped over. CART ran there a few years ago before they switched to Brands Hatch.

Don't launch into me too much about this, btw - I know NASCAR has to service it's home market first and foremost but in 10 years or so I'd like to see even a demonstration run of some proper stock cars over here - or even a race, it would sell out for sure.

Damn right Matt.

The Staten Island track is supposedly a 3/4 mile short track and the first divisions to race there will most likely be in the ARCA/Busch direction. That's how all tracks are, really. Nextel Cup didn't go to Vegas until after a few years of Busch racing, and Cup might be planning on a road course race at Mexico as well.
