It was six years ago today, we lost Adam Petty at the age if 19. Just like 9/11, I'll never forget where I was or what I was doing at the time I learned the news.
It will return someday. Maybe one of Austin's kids will get excited about racing, or there's always Maurice's two sons, maybe they'll have a boy that comes up through the ranks and races. Someday the Petty name will return, it's just going to be a long time after Kyle retires that it finally comes back. That may also be part of the reason Kyle's holding out as long as he has been, he doesn't want to retire the family name.
Back to Adam...I remember that day clearly in my head. I was at a Harrisburg Senators baseball game as part of a field trip for school. Obviously, I had a lot of fun that day and came home in an excited mood. When I got home my mom told me that one of the Busch drivers had been killed. I asked her who and she told me it was Adam. I'll never forget the sick feeling I got when I heard who it was. He had such a promising career ahead of him and no doubt would have been a champion. This was the beginning of what was a VERY difficult 18 month period for NASCAR/ARCA fans.

I dislike Democrats, I am anti-conformity, I support President Bush.
So sad everytime I think about it. What a talent. What a family. What a loss. I miss him dearly and barely even knew him. (obviously not personally "knew" but "knew about" him)
