Leave it to freaking Nascar. True inconsistency at its best. I bet if that was Dupont and Jeff Gordon they wouldn't have been suspended. Absolute bullshit, i'm totally steamed, and not just because it's Carl (which does really suck) but because Nascar has done this to such a small independant team. I'm scared this could be the end of the team if they don't win the appeal. Also, I wonder if Carl can race for another team? They did say suspension until August 18, but is that only for him driving for his team?

Both Carl & DeeDee are suspended. They can't even go to the track until 8/18.

I don't get it. Knaus and the #48 bunch are found to be blatantly cheating on various occasions and get the odd slap on the wrist but NASCAR enact the full force of their "power" to squash a little team (and long term supporter in Carl) for something that's clearly going to be an oversight? Oh wait, Lowes money and media favourite...

I've pretty much had it with this constant bollocks and double standards. Brian France must have been bullied at school a lot.

It is clear that NASCAR is trying to take the small teams completely out of the picture. Look at what they did to Mayfield and now look at what they are doing to Carl. I don't see where this 12 race suspension comes from, when there is NEVER a suspension for this type of violation.

For the past few years I have had nothing but complete hatred for the NASCAR sanctioning body. Now that hatred has grown to where I cannot even put it across in words. To utterly put the screws to someone while letting others off with a wrist slap is unacceptable. They need to understand that smaller teams do not nearly have the resources that the larger teams do. They should be finding ways to help them be more competitive rather than tearing them down any chance they get. I just still can't get over the severity of this penalty.

Best of luck to Carl through this whole ordeal. It won't do much good because NASCAR is always right and what they say goes. It is just a shame because NASCAR is messing with some really good people on this issue.

Hey everybody just wanted to chime in on this. In 2001 my fathers company sponsored Carl and the 85 team for the Coca-Cola 600, my entire family found nothing but the finest example of competitors and human beings as Carl and Dee Dee. They went above and beyond when we came down for the race, I owe Carl everything for the people he introduced me to and the experience and guidance he gave me at the time and then when I moved to NC to work in the industry. The fact that NASCAR would do this is just further proof that they have strayed so far from what it was even ten years ago that the fans are running from them in record numbers, decisions like this make evident where they want the sport (or show) to go. I understand you must make the fines and penalties even across the field no matter what team your on but this fine was so far above anything else it makes you think that there was a message being sent to the smaller teams. I hope everything works out and best of luck as always. They have my support more than ever and I hope that the public gets to see the side of Carl and Dee Dee I was privileged to see. Good Luck Carl! Drive fast turn left.

Reason #4,234,653 that NASCAR sucks now more than ever and is continuing to ruin what was once a pretty good sport. They want to know why ratings are down, it's because of crap like this. Squeezing the small teams out of the sport while trying to do everything in their power (first the chase of 10, then the chase of 12, and the actual conversations about the "fan vote" into the chase) to get Dale Jr. in the title hunt. Subjective calls that change week to week and races at tracks (Kansas and Chicago come to mind) that aren't even as exciting as watching my cat chase a ball around the living room.

Sorry this had to happen to Carl and DD, best of luck with the appeal process and overcoming this obstacle in the future.

They should ask Jeremy Mayfield the directions to the National Guard hospitality area. Maybe Marty Smith will get their story, too...

I have been a loyal fan of NASCAR for many years.  As the veterans who I followed for many years have been retiring, I have struggled to find a driver to cheer for.  I have enjoyed watching talented drivers and single teams such as Carl make the show.  However, after the recent situation with Jeremy and now Carl, it's time to find another sport to follow on a regular basis.  What has happened to the sport that I once loved?  My thoughts and prayers are with Carl and all his loyal fans during this difficult time.

You guys shouldn't be comparing Carl's situation with Jeremy's big or small team Jeremy's penalty was fair and on par with other similar cases Carl's was not.

I really don't know what to say but wow.

I have worked for Carl's teams in the past, as most of you know, and never did he even try to bend the rules.  My thoughts are with Carl, DD and Charles Swing and I feel so bad for you and your family.  You still have my support because I know you are not cheaters.
