Actually, I consider it right on par with many of the comments Matt has made in the past. I don't agree with the comment Astat made, just as I don't agree with the way Matt trashes other drivers for parking.

I agree! You do what you gotta do to stay alive in the sport. Carl is out there busting his ass and has to pull it in after one lap, BUT his qualifying effort, multiple shoutouts, etc are worth it. I mean they probably could have put someone else in the truck and had them run a lap in it and Carl could have sat out of the view of announcers/cameras/etc, would that have been better?

I think it was funny (the comment by Astat.)
Really disappointed that they wouldn't let Carl run more than one lap though. Oh well, it's better than not running at all.

Astat, you have some Matt and Mike in you. I got a good laugh out of your comment. Right now Carl has to do what he can to be on the track. You become forgoten very quick if you don't show up at the track.

I have no idea if this was a s&p or not but...
You have to look at the positives out of this weekend regardless of their intent. Carl got hooked up with a new, very capable team that trusted he could get the job done, and he did. Carl got the truck in the field, the primary goal, and even outqualified the primary truck in the process. That's going to make a difference down the line. If he had missed the race and stuffed it in the wall or blew the motor it would have been a total failure.
Bottom line is Carl did exactly what he was supposed to do. How can you fault the guy?
And who knows where we'll go from here. I bet this wont be the last time we see Carl in a truck race this season...

I laughed at Astat's comment, in fact, it was a mirror image of the anti-parking fascists on this board.

If by "mirror image", you mean "greatly exaggerated and over the top", sure. The harshest critics of S&Ping on this board have never gone to the lengths that he did in several portions of that post. And frankly, if you're happy that Carl had to run a S&P truck yesterday, you're not much of a race fan. It's great to see Carl out there in something and he should take these opportunities without question, but lord knows that racers want to race. No one faults Carl at all, it just sucks to watch your favorite driver outqualify his teammate by half a second and then park on team orders. We all were pretty sure it was S&P going in, but seriously...
The person that is so obviously being "spoofed" in that post would never say the majority of that crap. Private jets? Murderers and rapists? Everyone's rich? Total fail at trying to prove a point that holds no water.
The teams that have always gotten destroyed by critics are the likes of PRISM/MSRP. If you defend them, then that's all you need to say.

Harry, I always respect your opinions on this board, but Astat didn't say anything that can't be directly quoted from posts Matt has made in the past. The only point Astat tried to prove was that Matt typically is completely over-the-top in his criticism of start-and-park teams/drivers(with the exception of a few), and most people already knew that.

I appreciate the respect, I feel the same way towards you -- it's possible that I may have missed it if Matt has said the same things in the past. I can see where you guys are coming from in saying that Matt's overly passionate about it, he has been known to throw it all out there and make funny posts about situations like this.
Looking back at my post, that is definitely "overly passionate" as well haha.

It sickens me to hear these chumps whine about "not being able to afford tires" or saving the wear & tear on their "only engine" or "saving money to build a more competitive team for the future" (blah, blah, etc...) while they prance around in specially-designed sponsorless drivers' suits & pit crew member attire, freshly painted haulers-pimped to the gills with freezers full of caviar, motor coaches that are more luxurious than Tom's house ( ) and, to top it off, FLY TO & FROM THE RACE TRACK ON THEIR PRIVATE JETS!!! Only to return home to their house which would fit right in to any episode of "MTV Cribs." Not saying that all or even most parkers are guilty of all of the above, but if you can't afford 5 sets of tires, then maybe you should try living a little more moderately. Sell that $700,000 house and buy a nice 5 bedroom ranch......if you really want to race, sell the jet & motor home to some banking CEO or elected official, you can ride to the track in the hauler & sleep in one of the beds in there or even (*GASP!*) a motel (or hotel if you're a snob).....instead of coughing up more money than a new American car costs for a uniform, wear one of your old ones. So what if your old sponsor is still on it? Do potential sponsors really prowl the garage area looking for "nude" drivers' suits? I doubt it. Or do like Carl did back in 2003 and slap a little duct tape over those old logos. I promise you that any driver fashioning duct tape attire will garner more attention than a fancy new all-white uniform void of any corporate logos. Hey, Harry...here is an example.

Kinda like a kid saving his allowance for months to buy a new video game.. I think its more like a mass murderer attending church for 1 hour on Easter Sunday. Or a serial rapist helping an old lady across the street after he anally raped an entire kindergarten class, Santa Clause, the Pope and a cute little bunny earlier that day. I hope Blaney demolishes the car on lap 1 as long as everyone is unhurt. Relating a Serial Killer to someone who S&P's is a stretch. Harry....one more.

Moving on from Astat's post...
Did anybody see how many parkers they had up at Pocono this week? I counted eight. This is supposed to be the most competitive racing series in the world, yet one-fifth of the field shows up to start-and-park. I know, dead horse and all, but jeez, this is out of control.

I think it's exaggerated at pocono because it's one of the hardest tracks to get sponsorship at. Plus, you can't go easy on your engine because of the long straights.
